John N. Sigler, Esq.

John Neilson Sigler teaches Accounting and Business Law in the Merrick School of Business at the University of Baltimore. Dr. Sigler received his Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree in Law from the University of Maryland, his Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree in Finance from Columbia University, his Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Management Science from The Johns Hopkins University, and his Bachelor of Arts (A.B.) degree in Mathematics and Economics from Princeton University. He has been a Certified Public Accountant in Maryland, and a Member of the Bar in Maryland. He has been a member of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA), the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the National Association of Accountants (NAA), the American Accounting Association (AAA), the Baltimore City Bar Association, the Maryland Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Financial Executives Institute, the Baltimore Securities Association, Chesapeake Association of Economics Educators, and on numerous sections and committees of these organizations. Dr. Sigler has taught various courses in Accounting, Taxation, and Information Systems, as well as courses in Business Law, Finance, and Management. He has authored or co-authored several articles in accounting, taxation, law, systems, finance and investments. He has served as Assistant Dean of the School of Business, and as Chair of the Accounting Department as well as on various Departmental, School, University, and outside Committees and Organizations. Dr. Sigler has had extensive consultative and professional experience as an accountant and attorney, and as an investment adviser, real estate broker, insurance broker, and management consultant.

Research Interests: Dr. Sigler has been researching in areas such as capital gains and other income taxation, estate & gift taxation, business & estate & personal financial planning, business combinations, management v. stockholder remuneration, financial, cost, and tax information systems, and computer portfolio strategies.
