Mustafa “Mike” Zeedan Younis, Dr.PH., MBA, MA

is a member of the Executive Committee of the International Society for Research of Healthcare Financial Management and an Editorial Board member / manuscript reviewer for several national and international journals including, Health Economics, Annals of Family Medicine, American Journal of Managed Care and the European Journal of Health Economics. Dr. Younis has served as a Guest Editor for several respected refereed research journals. He is also a reviewer of special grants for the US Department of Health & Human Services, the Department of Housing & Urban Development, and the Institute of International Education.

Dr. Younis is an internationally recognized scholar and has collaborated with faculty from the School of Medicine at Jena University, Germany, as well as faculty from Turkey and the United Arab Emirates. He served with the American University of Beirut and the World Bank training workshops for health sector reforms in the Middle East, which involved training health administrators from several Middle Eastern countries. Dr. Younis has administrative experience as Chair of the Department of Health Policy & Management at Florida International University where he led the accreditation efforts for the healthcare management program. Also, during his tenure at Jackson State University, he helped develop curricula and taught courses for the Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral level programs, including: Health Financial Management, Health Economics, Comparative International Health Systems, and Health Policy & Management.

He has been associated with a number of funded research activities including a National Institutes of Health EXPORT grant to examine issues related to health disparities in Mississippi, and a grant to study the effects of Hurricane Katrina on healthcare services in Louisiana and Mississippi. Dr. Younis has authored and published more than 100 articles and abstracts in refereed journals, national and international conferences. His work has been cited in leading journals and in the publications of major US policy “think tanks.” He has received several competitive outstanding research and merit awards such as, “Most Published & Creative Faculty,” and a “Scholarship & Research Award” from the College of Public Service at Jackson State University. Dr. Younis also received the “Minority Scholar Award” from the American Association of Cancer Research. Dr. Younis was nominated for the “Research & Knowledge Award” at the National Institutes of Health, Office of Minority Health.

Dr. Younis served in lobbying efforts for cancer research and funding at the US Senate and US Congress on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC on behalf of the National Institutes of Health.

He has a strong research expertise in working with hospital and nursing home data to measure economic and financial performance. His present and future research activities focus on issues related to disparities and access in healthcare, cancer centers, long term care and nursing homes, capital structure & debt financing for hospitals & healthcare organizations, examination of quality & efficiency in the healthcare sector, hospital mergers, conversions & changes of ownership, and hospital profitability, pharmacoeconomics and medical tourism.
